Remembering victims of 9/11- William J. Erwin

Out of all the people that passed away on the tragic day of September 11, 2001, I chose to talk a little about William J. Erwin. William J. Erwin was 30 years old.  The reason that I chose to research him instead of everybody else was because he had the same last name as me.  Williams friends and family said that he was a funny guy.  He was the life of the party no matter where he went.  He also gave himself the nickname "a funnel of Useless knowledge" for obvious reasons.  He was one of the many workers that lost their lives at a place called Cantor Fitzgerald.  Erwin was a husband and a father of three month old son.  One thing that I read about William that really stood out to me was how his wife called him minutes before the first plane hit the world trade center and they talked a little bit about the vacation they had just taken.  She thanked him for staying awake and taking care of their son the previous night. That was their last conversation.  Then she watched all of the terror unfold on the television.  Another thing that I thought was interesting was that Mr. Erwin's son was named Brenden, which is also my brothers name.

After researching a little about William, I learned that I should never take things for granted.  Everything seems to be going great one second and then the next everything can be taken away.  It makes me appreciate things more.

I can apply what I have learned to my family and friends.  I should only say what I mean and not say things that I might regret in the future.  Everything can be taken a within a matter of seconds.

  1. It's cool that you picked someone with your last name. I looked for someone with my last name first, but there were none. I thought about picking someone with an O' last name, but went with someone from Ohio instead.

  2. It's crazy to hear that he actually talked to his wife ten minutes before the attacks!
