Exploration 3

I learn best with doing hands on things, I like the ability to get involved and learn at the same time. One of the greatest examples of learning best from a hands on approach is when I was in Advanced Chemistry and we did experiments to reenforce what we had learned in the lecture part of our class. If we wouldn't have had lab I would have been very lost the majority of that class.

I think the purpose of getting an education is to have a better life for yourself. I feel like with a college education you have more options later on in life and have a wider variety of ways to make a better living for yourself. I have seen personally how hard some of my family members lives have been that haven't gone to college. They have a lot of hardships and struggle much of the time. I'm not naive enough to believe though that if you do get a college education that all of your problems will be solved later on. I just feel that a college education will help you in the long run.

Without further education it would be impossible for me to accomplish my dreams of being a nurse practitioner, so education means a lot to me. I'm very optimistic but I'm also concerned about what is going to happen down the road. Ohio State has a very competitive nursing program and it is very hard to get into and I get worried that I won't be able to get into it, which is the root of most of my concerns. On the other hand there are a lot of other schools with good programs that I could apply to and get the same end results which is why I am very optimistic. No matter what it takes I'll reach my goal to be a nurse practitioner.

  1. Never give up. I used to worry about advancing in rank in the Navy. Only a certain number of people are chosen per year to move up. At first, I would lose hope and didn't figure I would get selected to move up because of how competitive it was. But then I realized something. They HAVE to pick the people at the top...the best at their job. So, giving up was no longer an option. I studied and worked my butt off, but it helped so much to realize that if I made myself one of the ones at the top, I would make it. And you know what the craziest part was? Not many people tried to get to the top, so it wasn't as far away as I thought it would be. You can do it. Believe it.
