My name is Caitlyn Laney. I graduated from Elgin High School. I am a Freshman here at OSUM. I work in pig barns for my family and I have grown up on a farm. I love camping and playing volleyball. I have a passion for helping animals. I am majoring in Animal science with the hopes of going to Vet school and becoming a Veterinarian. I will be transferring to main campus next year.

My favorite buckeye is R.L. Stine. He's an inspiration to me because he followed his dreams to become a writer and moved to New York. It shows me that anything can happen if you persevere and never give up.
My name is Travis Baird.  I was born on September 11, 1993.  I am from Sycamore, Oh, which is about a half hour north of Marion.  I come from a family of eight.  I have an older sister that is twenty-four, two younger brothers at ages 14 and 18, a younger sister that is 12 and an adopted sister that will be one here in September. I graduated from Mohawk High School in 2012.  I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Robotics. I currently work a full time job in Upper Sandusky, Monday through Friday and the occasional weekends putting in an average of forty hours a week.  I enjoy competing with others and I never lose.  I am currently in the middle of moving into a new apartment in Upper Sandusky to shorten my travel to school and work.  And that's me!

My favorite Buckeye would have to be Gordon Gee for all the things that he made possible to the University as President.
Hi, my name is Stefan Kutney and I attended Marysville High School just down State Route four from Marion.  Right now I am majoring in Pharmacy and the plan is to get at least an MD towards my goal.  I was the Section Leader of the Alto Saxophones at Marysville.  I also play the piano and accordion.  My goal after College is to start my own business manufacturing pharmaceuticals (Like Walter White -- but not really) and supplement the business with money from musical performances.  I want to be a Pharmacist because it would put me in a position to give advice to people, and I'd love that!
My favorite Buckeye is my mother Jody Kutney.  My mother is my favorite Buckeye because she's always supported me and did/does so much for our family.  One of the great things about my mom is the stories she tells us about the patients she scans at work (she's in charge of an Ultrasound Department at Wexner Medical Center in Columbus).  She can't tell us names because it's against policy to give confidential information, but she gives the the context -- away from names.  My mom has always been their for me, she means a great deal to me.

(This is me from 8th grade, I've had this picture as my Facebook profile picture since then - I've got other pictures but I haven't changed because I've had it like this so long, I don't want to waste that tradition).

Introduction

My name is Brandon Bacus and I live in Dublin, Ohio. A fun fact about me would be that I like 40s, 50s, 60s, rock n roll, and classical music. I have one brother who is older than me. I am currently exploring for my major and looking at some options.

My favorite Buckeye would Woddy Hayse.

Hi! my anme is Jana

Joney5182

Hi! My name is Jana Alam I was born in Bangladesh and came to America when I was 2 years old and grew up at N.Y.C. I first lived at Brooklyn, N.Y.C and moved to the Bronx at age 8. Most of my family lives in the Bronx. I speak 2 languages fluently and it is Bangla and English. Fun fact is that I grew up in the same neighborhood as Legend rapper Biggie Smalls when I i lived in Brooklyn. I moved here in Ohio in the middle of my 10th grade year and now I attend The Ohio State University Marion.
I would say my favorite Buckeye would have to be Troy Smith. Troy smith was a gridiron football quarterback for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. After that he went to The Ohio State University and should his talent.  He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, and has also played for the NF L's San Francisco 49er. He should that hard work pays off and that anyone can do what they want in life. Troy Smith inspires me to go and achieve my goal in life.
My name is Daric Erwin and I am a history major.  I live in Marysville, Ohio so I have about a 40 minute commute every school day.  I live with my parents and my brother.  We have three dogs. My "interesting" fact was that I work at Honda Marysville and I detail cars there.  I have only been working there for a couple of months.

My favorite buckeye is Jim Tressel.  He was the football coach for THE Ohio State University from 2001-2011.  He was a teacher, coach, father, and husband.  I like him because he was a great guy on and off the field.  I actually got to meet him in person one time.  This whole paragraph is a little ironic because he resigned as the OSU coach because he got in trouble with the NCAA.  That's a whole other story and it doesn't really change my opinion of him.

MLK March On Washington: Today, August 28, an amazing day in history

I'm going to talk about this day 50 years ago in class and tell you a few stories to set a context.  I hope it gets you excited to know a little more, and I've provided some links for you to follow to do just that, so that we don't just let another holiday or event in history pass without really thinking about what it really can mean to us now.

Here's some links, and just follow and read at your interest, as many as you can or wish, and then write a comment in the Comments section so we can share our thoughts and ideas on the March on Washington and the people involved.  What stands out to you?

The great Mahalia Jackson.

Intro from Kurt Schmidt

Hello my name is Kurt Schmidt. I am majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. My fun fact was I go to the Florida Keys twice a year with my family. I graduated from Buckeye Valley High School in Delaware, Ohio. I have two brothers that are younger then me their names are Thomas (15) and Karl (11). Since I was little I have always wanted to be a buckeye and now I am.

My favorite buckeye is Chris Spielman. The reason he is my favorite buckeye is for all his hard work in raising money for cancer research. When I was younger I didn't know how deadly breast cancer was until 6 years ago my aunt was diagnosed with it. She donates money every year to the Spielman fund all because one football player stood up and started a dream, a chase for a cure. That's why Chris is my favorite buckeye.

Hi,

I am Manal Bounif. I am a recent graduate from Olenatngy Liberty High School in Powell, Ohio. I was born in Algiers, Algeria and moved to the states when I was one year old. I visit mostly every summer with my family. I am a full time student and part time worker at a laser tag arena in Lewis Center, Ohio. I am the third person in my family to attend The Ohio State University proceeding my mother and older brother.

My favorite Buckeye is Chris Spielman, I interviewed him my senior year in high school for a  breast cancer project. I really admire all of the great things he has done. I came to  be interested in the cause because mt mother was diagnosed two years ago. One of my life goals is to create a foundation for women suffering from the disease.

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

My name is Andrew Pearson and I am a freshman here at OSUM. I am working towards a major in business marketing and hope to further my education next year on main campus. I am originally from Columbus and went to Dublin Jerome High School. I ran track my freshman and sophomore year but my main sport was wrestling. I am glad I am done with wrestling because cutting weight was one of the worst experiences of my life. On my free time I enjoy longboarding, snowboarding, and wakeboarding.

My favorite buckeye is Archie Griffin because of the wide range achievements and involvement he's had at OSU. When he played for OSU he won the Heisman trophy twice and is the only one to do so. After his career in football he went on to get his MBA. This shows Archie's versatility and drive which makes him a prime example for other buckeyes to follow. Going into business, I respect Archie's choice to get his masters in business administration and hope some day I can do the same.

My name is Dylan Lafferty. I came to OSU to have a great education that sets the foundation for the rest of my life.  I am wanting to major in astronautical engineering. I am a power lifter and a martial artist. I am a second degree black belt in kung fu and i currently practice nine forms of martial arts. I am a person who is quiet and does not talk much, but that depends on the conversation.

My favorite buckeye is Jesse Owens. He was a a famous track star.  It is said that he was the most famous track star at the 1936 Olympic Games. He inspires me to accomplish many things as long I put my mind to. It takes perseverance and dedication.

Hello, my name is Dominique Ybanes. Have been employed at the Delaware Bob Evans for a little over a year now as a waiter. Majoring in Computer Science and Information. When I transfer to main I would like to minor in communications. When I have spare time between school and work I skateboard.

My favorite buckeye I would say would have to be one of good friends Derek Schroeder. We were best friends when we lived in Bowling Green. When I moved to Delaware we still stayed in contact with each other. Always gave me advice or feed back when I needed it.

(This was me couple years ago and my friend Mikey planking)
My name is Nate Assenheimer. I am a skateboarder, and have been doing it for quite a few years. As well as going to OSUM I work part time in a factory called Crawford Machine INC. I graduated in the past year from Wynford High School, I played football, basketball, and baseball there.

My father is my favorite buckeye. His name is Kevin, and he graduated from OSU in 1988. His Major was natural science, which actually has nothing to do with his job. I chose my dad for a few reasons, he is one of the smartest people I know. He is also one of the hardest working people I know. he will come  home from a 10+ hour day at work and will go out side and work on the farm until dark. He is one of the best role models anyone could have, and I am glad to be able to call him my favorite buckeye.

nate assenheimer this is not my dad, this is my best friend.

Miguel Petrarca-My first blog

Hello class mates. My name is Miguel Petrarca and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University in Marion. I was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. My ancestors are Italian and my dad is from Uruguay. My favorite hobbies are playing soccer, reading, weightlifting, and spending time with family and friends. I also like to learn about things that I am interested in like Medicine, Business, Investing in stocks, and other things. One day I will become a physician and travel around the world helping people.

My favorite buckeyes are my brother and father. I am proud of my brother and father for many reasons including their academic achievements while they were studying at The Ohio State University. My brother studied biomedical engineering and earned a 3.5 GPA. He is also an amazing, knowledgeable, helpful and fun brother. My father studied at The Ohio State University to get his masters degree in engineering when he was pretty old. This great feat must have taken a lot of work because as people get older it is harder to learn new things. I am also proud of him because he is a great father. My favorite famous buckeye is Aaron craft because of his intensity in defense and he is also an excelletent student.

My brother

My dad

Emily Griffin

My name is Emily Griffin and last spring I graduated from Wynford High School which is right outside of the little town of Bucyrus. I am going to Ohio State to study nursing and want to specialize in oncology. My dream is to work at a children's hospital. I am interested in this particular field because when I was going into my freshman year of high school my brother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Lukemia. I am hoping to transfer to main campus next year. My fun fact was that I am a waitress at Bob Evans in Bucyrus.

My favorite Buckeye would probably be Gordon Gee, the last President of Ohio State. He is my favorite Buckeye because he really cared about the students that attended the school. I remember when I was touring the campus my guide told my group a story about Gordon Gee that made me like him even more. The guide told us that one of the students of Ohio State wanted to dress up as Gordon Gee so she emailed him asking for a one of his bow ties from his personal collection and he gave her one! I just thought that was really cool of him.

Travis O'Quin - Introduction

Hello!  My name is Travis O'Quin and I grew up in a small town near Ostrander, Ohio...a long time ago.  I graduated from Buckeye Valley High School in 1992, and joined the Navy that same year.  I have been to 17 different countries and got paid to do so (Fun Fact).  I retired from the Navy on April 30th, 2013, after 20 years 4 months and 16 days of service.  I currently work at Wal-Mart as an Inventory Associate and have decided to use my GI Bill to attend college.  I am looking forward to this new adventure and am glad to be here, at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!

My favorite Buckeye is my older sister, Beth.  She is 3 years older than me, and when I was a sophomore in high school she began her first year at Ohio State.  Of my immediate family, she was the first to go to college.  I have always looked up to her for that.  She took classes here at the Marion Campus and I recall her always working hard to get good grades so that she could become an elementary school teacher.  She continued to pursue that goal and was able to achieve and surpass it.  She has been a teacher for 20 years and has gone on to receive her Master Degree.  This year she was chosen to take on a new job assignment as a math coach for the Marysville School District.  She was the first Buckeye in our family, and I am very proud of her accomplishments.

Here is a picture of me with all of my sisters.  Beth is the one on the left.  I am equally as proud of my other two sisters, Tressa and Kerry.  Notice my Buckeye Pride, even before I knew I would one day be a Buckeye myself!

Teylor Gracely

My name is Teylor Gracely, I graduated from a very small school, Elgin High School, and currently live in New Bloomington. I played volleyball since elementary school and like to hangout with my friends in the free time. In high school I also played basketball and softball for two years. My fun fact is that I work at the Green Camp Dairy Bar. I plan on majoring in Medical Dietetics and going to main campus in the next year or two. I hope that I can be a Dietitian in like a fitness center kind of atmosphere.

My favorite buckeye would have to be my grandmother, Nancy Gracely. She is very inspiring lady and a great role model. She went back to school after having four kids and became a teacher. She has taught for many years at the Elgin Local Schools and now volunteers at the historical society in Marion. She has taken me to many historical sites all over Ohio and to Washington D.C.

This is before I chopped all my hair off!

Jacob Rittenour

My name is Jacob Rittenour. My fun fact is that i work as a prep cook at Bob Evans in Bucyrus. I play guitar in my spare time and played trombone for band for all four years of high school. I attended Bucyrus high school and plan on majoring in Chemistry.
My favorite Buckeye is R.L. Stine because when I was younger, the Goosebumps series was a big part of my life. When I found out that R.L. Stine was a Buckeye, I was very surprised.
and yes, i did have long hair.

Monday, August 26, 2013

My name is Mackenzie (Kenzie) LaRue and I am a freshman. I am planning to study Actuarial Science and eventually transfer to main campus O.S.U. I work at McDonald's, and in my free time I like to hang out with my friends. I graduated from Wynford High School and still currently live in Bucyrus.
My favorite buckeye is R.L. Stine. I didn't know that he was a buckeye and when I found that out I was very surprised. I used to read his Goosebumps series a lot when I was younger. They were, at one point, my favorite book series.
Hello my name is Seth Jones and I'm a freshman and I'm majoring in special education. My fun fact that I was a two sport athlete in high school and I played football and baseball. My sophomore year when I move down to main campus I'm going to try and continue my career in football by trying to become a member of the football team.
My favorite buckeye story would have to be when Woody Hayes punched the Clemson football player in the throat after an interception. I love this story because it just shows how passionate he really was about winning and how much winning really mattered to him. I'm not saying you should punch opposing players in the face if they are beating you. What this means to me is winning is so important and so is succeeding and that you'll do anything to get it.

My name is Cory I am a Freshman at The Ohio State University at Marion.  I plan on studying Business Administration.  I have a twin brother and we both went to Dublin Jerome High School.  I played football for 4 years and was a corner back.

My favorite buckeye is my mom. She is a strong role model in my life.  She is in sales, every company she has been in she was the top of the company.  I strive to be more like her and become the best of what I put my mind to.  I hope to half as good as she is one day with what ever occupation I pursue.

My name is Charity Ellzey. I graduated from a very small private school. My fun fact is that I did gymnastics for 12 years all the way until I was 16. Unfortunately I had to quit because of a injury. I currently  work at the same gym I trained at and I love it. My goal in life is to eventually be a physical therapist. I want to graduate with a degree in Athletic training and eventually go back to school for 4 more years and get my Doctorate.

My favorite Buckeye is Jessie Owens. He was a major African American track star and his story is amazing . He represented the U.S for track and ended up winning his race against all odds. He had a huge influence on history. Jessie was an amazing runner and many people look up to him for what he did.
Hi my name is Whitney Marshall and I just graduated from Ridgedale High School. I have a brother and a sister, they are both older than I am. Interesting fact about me and my sister is that we are two years, two months, and two days apart. I like to read and be with my family and friends. I played volleyball, basketball, and track in high school along with softball in my younger years. I love watching Ohio State sports such as football, mens and womens basketball, volleyball, and many other sports. Every home Ohio State football game we tailgate with friends and family. During the summer me and my family go to Myrtle Beach, SC. This summer was the 15th year we have went. Something that is unique about me is that when I was younger I spilled ramen noodles all over my stomach and leg and had third degree burns and now on my leg I have a backwards Nike sign.

My favorite buckeye is Woody Hayes, he doesn't have the best of reputations but he is still one of the best coaches in Ohio State University football history. Woody Hayes is known for "the punch heard round the world" where he punched a Clemson football player because he intercepted the ball in the 1978 Gator Bowl.

Meri Bedalli.

Hi, my name is Meri Bedalli, I graduated from Upper Arlignton High School, and currently live in Upper Arlingtion, Ohio. My fun fact was that I was born in Italy, and moved to America when i was five years old. Welcome from Mike, and first blog post instructions

Welcome to our class Blog!

Hello students and welcome to our blog.  Today, let's work to get everyone on the blog and learn how to use its features.

Our address is 945english1110.blogspot.com but the simple way to find the blog is to either bookmark it or just go to blogger.com when you are signed into your Gmail and it will show you the blogs you belong to.

The first thing you must do is get a Gmail account.  Then, using that Gmail address, please write to me at mikelohre@gmail.com and I will invite you to the blog.   You must accept the invite and follow the steps in order to use the blog.  Let’s do this in class.

Once you are a member, you will see your Gmail address appear in the upper right hand corner, and only then can you post to the blog.
--To do a New Post, you must again find that link in the upper right hand corner.  Click New Post and a window will appear to let you compose.
Please title all your writings, and use a username that is either your name or nickname so we know who is writing.  Only class members will be on this blog.

GOALS:
For your first post, write one paragraph where you introduce yourself and some things about you, including your Fun Fact or something unique.  That way we can always have this on the blog as a way of knowing and remembering each other.

In your next paragraph, share your favorite Buckeye story.  I think it's important to recognize our influences and those who came before us, so tell us about your favorite Buckeye and what this person means to you.

Finish by posting either a picture of your favorite Buckeye or of yourself to the blog.  Let's learn to use images with our posts, and it is both fast and easy to do.

Good luck, have fun, and just let me know when you need help!  This first day is all about getting comfortable with the blog, and for some of you, this will take time.

All best,
Mike Lohre

P.S. If ever you don't finish an assignment on here, or if you just want to revise, sign into the blog and then go back to the pencil icon on your post.  If you click it, it will take you right back into your writing, and you can update, add, subtract, and edit easily.
