Remembering Wendy Faulkner

I chose one of the 3 people that died in the attacks that was from Ohio.  Her name was Wendy Ruth Faulkner and she was from Mason, Ohio.  At the time of her death, Wendy was the Information Systems Vice President for a company called Aon Risk Services, based in Chicago.  She had taken the job nine months prior to the attacks of 9/11 on the advice of a good friend.  She was hesitant to leave Ohio, but took the job and commuted between Chicago and her home in Mason on long weekends.  Her family was getting ready to move to the Chicago area to be with her, as they had just begun negotiations on a house. 

Her being in New York on September 11th was due to this new job, and a meeting on the 104th floor of the south tower.  Her body was never found.

But there is much more to Wendy's story, and legacy, than her last day here on Earth.  Wendy wasn't just a big wig in a fancy company that flew from big city to big city to rub elbows in meetings.  No, she was much bigger than that.  She was a true hero way before her name went on any news ticker, or any memorial. 

Wendy sent boxes of supplies to underprivileged families around the world, so that they could live a little better.  She touched the lives of many by giving and caring so deeply for people she had never even met.  She was a hero to them.  She meant the world to them.  I'm sure to some extent, she saved them. 

When one of the families found out that Wendy was one of the casualties of the attack on The World Trade Center, they sent an email to her husband, Lynn.  In that email they said that the children would miss "Auntie Wendy's" boxes.  Her husband made a decision that he couldn't let her legacy die that tragic day in September, so he began to build the Wendy Faulkner Memorial Children's Foundation.  Today this non-profit organization is carrying on with Wendy's dream, and helping children around the globe live a better life. 

Thank you for this assignment.  I am very glad that I was able to learn a little about someone who was so special to so many people.

    She sounds like such an inspiration. That's awesome that she sent those care packages to underprivileged families and that her husband continued her legacy. We need more people like her in the world.

    This was an incredible story. I am so glad I picked yours to read, this was amazing. She sounds like an incredible person and what her husband decided to do was amazing. I can't even put into words how amazing her story is and how awful her life had to end. This story is amazing.

    What an amazing women. It is so inspirational knowing that there are people in the world like Wendy. It is just so tragic that her life was cut short because of terrorism.

    Wow, she sounds like she was an amazing person. she did a lot to help others. The world needs more people like her. It's so sad that such a great person was list that day, as well as many others.
