GERARD JEAN BAPTISTE
A very kind, heartwarming man. Gerard loved New York and his job of being a fire fighter. "Being American, he thought New York was the most beautiful city in the world," said Delphine Leymarie, his girlfriend. He came to America on his fifth birthday with his mother. He had many different job experiences throughout his life. First, he was into graphic arts and computers, then he joined the New York National Guard, and later on became part of the fire department. He was known for always having dog treats in his pockets that he would give to the pets that would walk past the station. "I always found crumbs in his pockets," Ms. Leymarie said. This little glimpse into Gerards life showed me that it wasn't just numbers of people that we lost, but we lost real lives. Individuals that came from many different placces and were all special in thier own way. What really amazed me with his story is that he put his life in danger to save others, that was what his life as a fireman was all about. I think this story can be applied to my life by teaching me to be less selfish and help others in anyway that I can.

Its such an amazing and tough job being a firefighter! You have to have a lot of courage and passion to do something that will risk your own life to save others.
ReplyDeleteHe risked his life to save the life of hundreds and he lost his life that's sad he will not be forgotten along with all the 9/11 victims.
