"They was too old....Who's really seein' it is Ruthie and Winfiel'". I titled chapter 18 death and rebirth because of this quote. It sums up the main theme for this chapter and that is the children are really starting over in this new place and the grandparents did not really have much of a chance to do this. Casy knew they would not have made it to California. For how long of distance it was, it took a toll on the Tom and his parents. I can not even imagine what it was like for granma and granpa.
The event that struck me was when Noah just walked away from his family into the unknown. He was just sitting by the river when he had the thought that he did not ever want to leave this beautiful place. Tom asked him what he was gonna do for food, his response "Get myself a piece of line. Ill catch a fish". For Noah the life in the fields doing back breaking work did not suit his life. He wants to be free of that life and live life free and clear.
To me wisdom is learned intellegence over time. It is learned through experiencing life, asking questions and listening to your elders. By doing this you learn what to and not to do in life to be successful. Learn from others mistakes to improve yourself as a person. Knowledge to me is learned through school and books but wisdom is gained through street know-how and experimentation with ideas and concepts. My father is 65 years old and has done alot of things in those years. When I am the happiest is listening to his stories of his triumps and his blunders. Alot of his stories have lessons in them to be learned and after each I feel better informed and believe I have gained wisdom.
Great post Cory! I really enjoyed reading it and i thought your direct quote was great too. I like your title as well I had something along the same lines, even though granma is dead it is somehow a rebirth to the family. I also agree with your view on wisdom, wisdom isn't taught by someone else but it is learned from your own personal experiences.
ReplyDeleteReally liked your quote and agree with you that wisdom is learned by what you do and learn in life and by others that have experienced to pass it on to you.
